USACE Knoxville DB TN112 Replace Gravel Lot

CUSTOMER: USACE Charleston District

Knoxville, Tennessee (TN112 Army Reserve Center)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Charleston District has awarded ADVON the design-build contract to revitalize the Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA) motor pool at the TN112 Army Reserve Center in Knoxville, TN. To ensure a robust and long-lasting solution for the 81st Readiness Division, ADVON has partnered with Alpha Corporation to provide expert engineering and design services.

Engineering a Heavy-Duty Tactical Solution: The existing motor pool, subjected to the heavy weight of military-grade vehicles and persistent Tennessee weather, suffered from significant erosion and structural instability. ADVON’s approach focuses on restoring site levelness and ensuring the sub-grade can withstand the high-stress demands of a modern maintenance facility.

Technical Scope & Site Development:

  • Mass Excavation & Remediation: The project begins with the removal of 56,000 square feet of degraded material to a depth of 10 inches, clearing the way for a reinforced foundation.
  • Geotechnical Validation: To ensure the longevity of the new lot, Advon is conducting comprehensive geotechnical boring and soil analysis. This allows our engineers to verify soil bearing capacity and determine if additional stabilization is required to support the unit’s heaviest equipment.
  • Precision Grading & Drainage: Installation of a new, high-density stone surface, meticulously graded to integrate with the existing drainage infrastructure. This prevents future erosion and ensures efficient water runoff during heavy rain events.
  • Structural Durability: The new motor pool is engineered specifically to provide a level, high-traction environment capable of supporting the static and dynamic loads of military vehicle maneuvers.

Commitment to Performance: Before turning the site back over to the Army Reserve, ADVON will conduct rigorous inspections to verify that the drainage patterns and load-bearing capabilities meet USACE’s exacting specifications. By modernizing the AMSA motor pool, ADVON is providing the 81st Readiness Division with a reliable, all-weather foundation for their maintenance and mission-readiness operations.
