USACE Knightdale DB NC115 Emergency Generator
CUSTOMER: USACE Charleston District
Knightdale, North Carolina (NC115 Army Reserve Center)
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Charleston District has entrusted ADVON with the design-build delivery of a mission-critical standby power system for the 81st Readiness Center, located at the NC115 Army Reserve Center in Knightdale, NC. To ensure the highest standards of technical precision, ADVON has partnered with DAE Engineering to lead the design phase of this essential infrastructure project.
Ensuring Uninterrupted Readiness: The primary objective of this project is to provide the Army Reserve with a reliable, independent power source capable of sustaining operations during a primary utility failure. As the Design-Build lead, ADVON is managing the project from initial engineering through to final commissioning.
Technical Scope & Infrastructure:
- Power Generation: Installation of a high-capacity Cummins 1000kW diesel generator, engineered to provide robust emergency power for the entire facility.
- Seamless Transition: Integration of a new Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), ensuring an instantaneous and reliable transition from utility power to emergency generation.
- Civil & Structural Engineering: Construction of specialized, reinforced concrete equipment pads designed to support the weight and vibration of the 1000kW unit and ATS.
- Electrical Distribution: Development of new underground electrical ductbanks and the complex rerouting of existing utility feeds to integrate the new system into the facility’s power grid.
Rigorous Testing and Commissioning: In alignment with USACE’s exacting standards, the final phase of the project involves a comprehensive startup and performance testing protocol. ADVON will conduct a series of load tests and system simulations to verify that the generator and ATS operate at peak efficiency under full mission load.
By delivering this turnkey power solution, ADVON is proud to bolster the resilience of the 81st Readiness Center, ensuring that our nation’s Army Reserve remains mission-ready, regardless of external conditions.
